29 Nov Laurent Fabius: “The time has come!”

The 1,300 delegates meeting in the “La Loire” plenary room observed a minute’s silence on Sunday in memory of the Paris attacks. The two ADP* Co-Chairs, Ahmed Djoghlaf (Algeria) and Daniel Reifsnyder (United States) wanted discussions to open early “to make the best possible use of the very limited time available to delegates to finalize the draft agreement”.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and incoming COP21 President, Laurent Fabius, reiterated his “absolute priority to help reach an ambitious compromise”. “I am committed to this process being transparent and open to all. My door will always be open,” continued the incoming COP21 President, before commending his counterpart, Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, Chair of COP20, for the work accomplished together. “The Lima-Paris duo is a model to be followed,” noted Ahmed Djoghlaf.

The delegates will begin discussions on Tuesday 1 December, following the political sequence with the 150 Heads of State tomorrow (further information on the programme for 30 November: here).
